CostAs great as carbon fiber is, there are some down sides. Namely, cost. Even though costs have gone down significantly in recent years, it still costs more overall than other options out there.

And then there’s recycling. Carbon fiber is not easy to recycle. When you do recycle it, the new product isn’t as strong as the old one. It’s not a huge danger to the environment, but it won’t biodegrade.The price of carbon fiber per pound is about $10. This doesn’t sound so bad, until you realize that fiberglass can be found for as cheap as $3 per pound and steel costs only about a quarter per pound after casting.

The good news is that it will become cheaper to make over time. With the rate at which research and technology is expanding, it will be even more affordable in the coming years.
